Frequently Asked Questions

1.  How are groups funded?
Each individual dreamscheme group funds their own scheme; however, the Dreamscheme Network now employs a full time fundraiser, our "Funder Finder", who can provide advice and support to our members on all aspects of fundraising and grant applications, including workshops and training.

2.  How much does it cost to run a dreamscheme?
This varies from group to group. However, the main costs to be taken into considerations are:
  • Training: each group must undertake Level 1 and 2 Training before they are qualified to run a dreamscheme. Level 1 Training is £65.00 per person, and Level 2 is £125.00 per person. Includes lunch and a work file to take away with you.

    3.  What are the age limits for young people involved in the Dreamscheme?
We want to be inclusive but for legal and insurance purposes a criteria of Dreamscheme Membership states that groups will not work with the under 8’s.

    4.  Can the points be used to BUY things rather than be exchanged for trips?
No. The main outcome of the trips and activities is to give the young people the opportunity to take part in or experience something outside of their everyday life and to enrich their frame of reference. In addition:
  • …keep it simple: this is the essence of dreamscheme!
  • …trips not trainers – trips cannot be sold on for cash
  • …the scheme should be run by group GUIDELINES, not individual, singular decisions by the leaders
  • …changes the balance of leaderships in the group. The first request might be easy, the next one could be difficult!

    5.  Can our kids get points for joining the Guides/Scouts?
No - try to keep Dreamscheme nice and clear.

"WORK = anything that makes the estate/community a better place"

Funders are paying for work in the community and building Dreamscheme groups. I do think it's great if young people gain enough confidence to go and join Scouts or Guides, or get involved with the Duke of Edinburgh Award for example, due to their involvement in the Dreamscheme. Mark it up as a success!
